Obama Says No Peace in Syria with Assad in Power

Obama Says No Peace in Syria with Assad in Power

by Stephen Lendman

On Thursday following a National Security Council meeting, Obama reiterated Washington’s longstanding inflexible position - demanding Assad step down.

Fighting will continue otherwise, he stressed. Conflict resolution remains pure fantasy. He expressed “skepticism” about cessation of hostilities working, citing “potential pitfalls” - failing to explain what’s most important.

He wants war, not peace, Syrian sovereignty destroyed, US-controlled puppet governance replacing it, the nation balkanized as part of longstanding imperial plans to redraw the Middle East map, mini-states created for easier control.

Russia’s strategic military intervention changed everything, foiling Washington’s regional agenda, a major game-changing achievement, US policymakers at a loss on how to counter it effectively.

Putin again proved himself a master geopolitical chess player - outwitting, outfoxing and outmaneuvering Obama, undermining his dirty game, short of ending Washington’s pursuit of unchallenged dominance by brute force.

Obama lied, claiming he’ll do his part, trying to “end this terrible conflict (in Syria) with diplomacy” - naked aggression he launched, using ISIS and other terrorist groups as imperial foot soldiers, continuing to arm and provide them with other material support.

Saying “Syrians will never stop fighting until Assad is out of power” is willful deception. US-backed imported terrorists are involved. There’s nothing civil about ongoing conflict - one of the biggest Big Lies duplicitously repeated.

The vast majority of Syrians support Assad. They want no one else leading them.

They want peace, not war, foreign interference in their internal affairs ended, their sovereign independence respected - not as long as regime change remains inflexible US policy.

Expect endless conflict to continue despite Russia’s best efforts to resolve things diplomatically - impossible without a legitimate peace partner. None exists in Washington.
