Terror Plots Foiled in Iran
by Stephen Lendman
Iran has been targeted by terrorist attacks for years, Anglo-Zionists and their imperial partners responsible, their intelligence agencies or proxies involved.
In May, the Tehran Times quoted Iranian Intelligence Minister Seyed Mahmoud Alavi, saying “(w)e identified over 20 terrorist teams who were trying to conduct sabotage activities last year, killing some of them and arresting others.”
In mid-April, he said a dangerous “terrorist” was arrested, plotting to conduct “blasts…in the Western parts of the country. Certain regional states are behind this ominous and failed operation.”
On June 20, an Iranian Intelligence Ministry statement said “(o)ne of the biggest terrorist plots of (Saudi-backed) Takfiri Wahhabi groups was thwarted,” according to Fars News.
“(T)errorists (were) apprehended and a number of ready-to-explode bombs and a large amount of explosive materials has been discovered and seized from them.”
In a related development, Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Secretary Ali Shamkhani said individuals planning bomb attacks in Tehran during Ramadan were arrested.
Separately, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force commanding General Mohammad Pakpour said “(t)wo terrorist teams affiliated to the anti-revolutionary grouplets who wanted to pass through the Oshnavieh bordering areas to conduct sabotage and terrorist acts (in Iran) were identified and attacked by the IRGC forces” - killing 12, operations to eliminate others continuing.
Days earlier, the IRGC said “a 5-member terrorist group affiliated to the PJAK was disbanded (and killed) in Sardasht region in the Northwestern parts of the country in the precise intelligence and reconnaissance operations of the IRGC Ground Force.”
US-led Anglo-Zionist hostility toward the Islamic Republic is longstanding. Annual State Department reports on global terrorism unjustifiably call Iran the world’s leading state sponsor - turning truth on its head, falsely claiming together with Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Taliban, it’s “pursu(ing) destabilizing activities” worldwide.
Longstanding US plans call for regime change - by color revolution or war, wanting pro-Western puppet governance replacing Iranian sovereignty.
Foiled terrorist attacks like ones explained above are destabilizing tactics used toward accomplishing this objective.
