Leaked Hillary Tapes Mock Progressive Politics
by Stephen Lendman
Supporters believing she’s progressive should think again. Her deplorable longstanding public record reveals otherwise - more proof from newly leaked tapes.
On September 30, The Intercept discussed comments she made at a fund-raiser last February - “distanc(ing) herself from progressive” positions she rhetorically espouses while campaigning, including “free college (and) free healthcare.”
Last July, she lied, saying “I take a backseat to no one when you look at my record in standing up and fighting for progressive values.” Since the 1990s, she consistently supported monied interests exclusively, spurning popular ones.
Describing herself as part-center-left, part-center-right, leaves unexplained how her rhetoric changes depending on who she’s addressing. It conceals her hardcore neocon credentials, making her more ruthlessly dangerous than any previous US presidential aspirant.
In public, it’s “progressive” Hillary. Privately to large donors at fund-raisers, she’s polar opposite - pro-Wall Street, pro-war, anti-populist, anti-fundamental freedoms.
On the stump, she touts nonexistent economic recovery, Main Street Depression conditions harming most Americans. Privately, she spoke of “children of the Great Recession…living in their parents’ basement,” not “see(ing) much of a future.”
She mocked Sanders’ (phony nonexistent) political revolution as a “false promise,” assuring as president she’ll oppose progressive policies, polar opposite her campaign pledges, guaranteeing dirty business as usual continuing with no deviations.
Trump responded to the leaked tapes, tweeting “(c)rooked Hillary is nasty to Sanders supporters behind closed doors. Owned by Wall St. and Politicians. Hillary Rodham Clinton is not with you.”
Given how media scoundrels one-sidedly support her, suppressing negative information able to turn off voters, the newly released tapes aren’t likely to harm her campaign.
Yet they’re more disturbing proof of how she’ll govern if anointed America’s next president.
