Putin Calls Aleppo's Liberation a Major Step Toward Conflict Resolution

Putin Calls Aleppo’s Liberation a Major Step Toward Conflict Resolution

by Stephen Lendman

Overnight street celebrations followed Syria’s announced liberation of eastern Aleppo, formally declaring victory, freeing the city entirely of US-supported terrorists.

Putin called the triumph “an essential component of a full normalization in Syria, and I hope in the region on the whole.”

“And this operation, certainly, there is no doubt about it, ended with a direct participation - if not to say a decisive participation and influence of our military, especially in its final part, concerning the humanitarian operation.”

He’s focused now on achieving cessation of hostilities and conflict resolution throughout Syria, saying:

“We and our colleagues from Iran and Turkey, and of course the Syrian leadership, alongside other regional nations, or all the interested states, should continue the work to reach a final truce.”

“Everything possible should be done so that combat activities can be halted within Syria..(w)e will strive towards this” until achieved.

Aleppo’s liberation along with government forces achieving gains in other parts of the country come after nearly six years of Obama’s war - naked aggression against sovereign independent country threatening no one.

Russia air power played the decisive role in preventing Syria from becoming another US imperial trophy. Obama thankfully leaves office in January, a disgraced president, an unindicted war criminal.

Perhaps he intends amassing wealth like the Clintons, dirty money for serving America’s deep state at the expense of humanity worldwide.

Separately, Trump acknowledged receiving a cordial holiday season letter from Vladmir Putin, calling it “very nice…(H)is thoughts are so correct. I hope both sides…live up to the(m), and we do not have to travel an alternate path.”

Putin said “(p)lease accept my warmest Christmas and New Year greetings.

Serious global and regional challenges, which our countries have to face in recent years, show that the relations between Russia and the US remain an important factor in ensuring stability and security of the modern world.

I hope that after you assume the position of the President of the United States of America we will be able - by acting in a constructive and pragmatic manner - to take real steps to restore the framework of bilateral cooperation in different areas as well as bring our level of collaboration on the international scene to a qualitatively new level.

Please accept my sincere wishes to you and your family for sound health, happiness, wellbeing, success and all the best.”

It remains to be seen if positive US actions follow Putin’s genuine outreach for normalized bilateral relations. World peace and stability depend on it.
