Russia's Assessment of World Conditions

Russia’s Assessment of World Conditions

by Stephen Lendman

Russia’s geopolitical agenda is a force for good, not ill - polar opposite of how America and NATO operate, waging endless wars on humanity for unchallenged global dominance.

According to Russia’s Foreign Ministry, international conditions remain tense. Ongoing conflicts are hugely destabilizing. The terrorist threat remains acute.

“The entire world (pays) a high price for the attempts of a limited number of countries to retain their global ‘leadership’ at all costs,” Russia’s FM explained. It’s no mystery which ones Moscow means.

The need for mutual cooperation and multi-world polarity are key Russian objectives, systematically obstructed by Washington and its major NATO partners.

“Russia has worked hard to prevent the further degradation of international relations, fraught with uncontrolled collapse and descent into full-blown confrontation,” its FM explained - with lots of credible proof supporting its claim.

Russia “confirmed and consolidated its status as a guarantor of global stability, a centre of attraction and support for those who are committed to the primacy of international law, healthy traditions and values, and who are ready and willing to use this as a basis to build clear and fair collective approaches to resolving the important problems of our time.”

If all nations acted like Russia, world peace and stability would bust out all over, borrowing a phrase from lyricist Oscar Hammerstein made in an entirely different context.

Russia prioritizes combating the scourge of terrorism cooperatively with other nations - in full accord with international law, norms and standards.

It promotes “equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with all interested countries and groups of states…Fighting evil can be successful only on a collective, fair, and legal basis, with the central role played by the UN and its Security Council.”

The Middle East and North Africa remain especially troubled areas, plagued by “a vast space of chaos and violence…pos(ing) a major threat to international security and stability.”

Russia’s intervention in Syria at the behest of its government handed foreign backed terrorists significant defeats - in Aleppo mainly, but also by liberating “over a 1,000 towns.”

Trilateral Russian, Iranian and Turkish efforts arranged for intra-Syrian dialogue without preconditions, based on Security Council Resolution 2254.

The Obama administration failed to further the cause of restoring peace and stability to Syria, pursuing war, not its resolution.

“The policy Russia is pursuing to stabilise the region, to relieve the negative consequences of the crisis and find ways to resolve the numerous political conflicts, promotes understanding of the need to combine efforts to combat the common threats and challenges, and to coordinate approaches to leading the region out of its multilevel crisis” - especially in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen, along with facilitating a way to achieve Israeli/Palestinian conflict resolution.

Ukraine run by illegitimate putschists remains a major festering challenge, a fascist state in Europe’s heartland brutalizing its own people, endangering the region with help from Washington and its rogue allies.

Sino/Russian partnership is the most important counterweight to Washington’s hegemonic agenda, hopefully softening when Trump succeeds Obama.

It’ll remain a major challenge, given powerful dark forces bent on world dominance no matter how much mass slaughter and destruction it takes to achieve it.
