Source for Fake News Report Claiming Russia Has Compromising Material on Trump Identified
by Stephen Lendman
According to the Wall Street Journal, former UK MI6 officer Christopher Steele prepared the fake news report.
In the 1990s, he was based in Russia at Britain’s Moscow embassy. “Intelligence officers often use diplomatic postings as cover for their espionage activities,” the Journal explained.
Steele co-founded the London-based Orbis Business Intelligence. Still unexplained is who put him up to the dirty work?
Who ordered it? Who hired him? Outgoing DNI head James Clapper denied involvement by US intelligence agencies. On Wednesday, he issued a statement, saying:
“This evening, I had the opportunity to speak with President-elect Donald Trump to discuss recent media reports about our briefing last Friday.”
“I expressed my profound dismay at the leaks that have been appearing in the press, and we both agreed that they are extremely corrosive and damaging to our national security.”
“We also discussed the private security company document, which was widely circulated in recent months among the media, members of Congress and Congressional staff even before the IC became aware of it. I emphasized that this document is not a US Intelligence Community product and that I do not believe the leaks came from within the IC.”
“The IC has not made any judgment that the information in this document is reliable, and we did not rely upon it in any way for our conclusions.”
“However, part of our obligation is to ensure that policymakers are provided with the fullest possible picture of any matters that might affect national security.”
“President-elect Trump again affirmed his appreciation for all the men and women serving in the Intelligence Community, and I assured him that the IC stands ready to serve his Administration and the American people.”
Washington’s intelligence community notoriously lies. Pro-Hillary CIA, DNI, DHS, FBI and NSA dark forces are behind a coup plot to prevent Trump’s ascension to power as US president, despite triumphing convincingly on November 8.
Fake news reports claiming Russian US election hacking helped him defeat Hillary were published to delegitimize him and undermine his authority once in office.
Steele so far hasn’t confirmed or denied any involvement in producing the fake news dossier on Trump. His firm provides corporate intelligence, along with investigations and insight.
He’s also a Walsingham Training director. According to its web site, the company provides “understanding and mitigating the cyber and physical risk posed by hostile states, criminals and companies (in) how to gain traction in complex markets like Russia (and) how to recognize misinformation.”
London’s Guardian describes Steele as “a retired western European former counter-intelligence official, with a long history of dealing with the shadow world of Moscow’s spooks and siloviki (securocrats).”
Orbis co-founder Chris Burrows worked as UK Foreign Office first secretary during the 1990s. From 2000 - 2009, he was a Foreign Office counsellor.
Trump blasted the report via Twitter, calling it FAKE NEWS - A POLITICAL WITCH HUNT (using caps to express disgust and anger)!”
Separate tweets said:
“Russia has never tried to use leverage over me. I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSIA - NO DEALS, NO LOANS, NO NOTHING!”
“Russia just said the unverified report paid for by political opponents is ‘A COMPLETE AND TOTAL FABRICATION, UTTER NONSENSE.’ Very unfair!”
“Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to ‘leak’ into the public. One last shot at me.Are we living in Nazi Germany?”
On January 20, Trump will succeed Obama as America’s 45th president. Expect no letup in efforts to denigrate him once in office, especially if he finds ways to cooperate with Vladimir Putin.
